The LP4000 is a 4-colour high secure inkjet printer for machine readable passports based on innovative
print technology by Hewlett Packard. Passports with up to 100 pages can be processed. Each single page
can get its individual print face, visa-, observation page et cetera. Versatile including many standard
features the LP4000 fits perfect into passport office environments.
High Security
With its high speed USB 2.0 connection the LAPIS GMBH Passport Printer can be connected to a
document reader via PC. In this combination basic data can be automatically copied from a former
passport or ID document. Printing is possible after successful verification of traveler‘s former document
or legally issued application form, only.

Outstanding with LAPIS GMBH Passport Printer is its ability of printing invisible UV colours to the visible
colours simultaneously. This advantage features enhanced security on personalization and passport
issuing. LAPIS GMBH offers a wide range of UV colours, visible under UV light wave range of 254 or 365 nm
only. Various ink/print combinations like visible and invisible UV colour ghost image, printed data page in
UV colours, full colour UV ghost photo et cetera, are possible.

Features
RFID Reader and Writer
The LP4000 Passport Printer comes with RFID Reader and Writer to read and write data to a RFID chip
according ICAO recommendations.
Camera System
The Camera System enables to print holder’s data to a pre-printed form. Camera can retrieve information
like passport number from the document.
Printing system – Designed to save ink and money
Some printer manufacturers claim that systems with tri-colour cartridges waste ink as the whole cartridge
needs to be replaced when a particular colour runs out; whereas in individual-cartridge systems, only the
ink that has run out needs to be replaced. In fact, efficient ink usage is not about the type of
cartridge (individual or tri-colour), but rather about the design and performance of the printing system.
To demonstrate the point, HP commissioned independent research. The research shows that
tested against comparable HP tri-colour-cartridge printers, competing-brand printers with individual
ink cartridges used twice as much ink to print the same number of pages*! With their efficient design,
HP printers print up to twice as many high-quality pages using the same amount of ink as competing
printers with individual ink cartridges*. Clearly, printers with individual ink cartridges for each colour
are not inherently more efficient than printers with tri-colour cartridges.
